Wheel Throwing Weekend // 18th-19th April 2020 // 10:00-16:00
Pottery Intensive Throwing Weekend
Saturday and Sunday 18th & 19th April 2020 from 10:00am-4:00pm
This 2-day course is suitable for complete beginners and is a great way to learn about all the basic stages of pottery production on the wheel.
Day 1 // Will be all about learning to prepare and centre clay, pulling walls and making cylinders and bowls. Today will all be about practice, practice, practice as this is the most crucial part of being able to throw successfully.
Day 2 // Your pots will have firmed up overnight and you will learn how to trim your work on the wheel. You will decorate your work with coloured slips, which will be fired and transparent-glazed at a later date.
Throwing successfully takes time and practice, and the focus of this course is on learning and improving, not necessarily about the outcome of a finished pot. You will have access to your own wheel in each session and unlimited clay.
Please bring a packed lunch, light snacks and refreshments will be provided. Please also bring a towel, and apron as you will get messy! Ensure that you have short nails and long hair tied back for throwing, and any jewellery should be removed from your hands and wrists. If you have false nails it is advised to remove them beforehand as these will impede your ability to throw significantly.
We will email you when your work is ready to collect after a few weeks, and you can come and collect your pots on Sundays between 10am and 4pm. We keep work for 2 months after emailing, after which we have to dispose of the work as we have limited storage space.
Please ensure that you can attend all sessions as we cannot offer space to catch up a session in other classes.
