Pottery 101 // Weekend Intensive Course // 18th-19th July 2020
Saturday 18th July 10:00am - 5:00pm
Sunday 19th July 10:00am - 5:00pm
A weekend course with a full beginners introduction to working with clay from start to finish, including working on the potters wheel to constructing with purely hand-building techniques.
Day One // Learning to throw on the wheel, from scratch! Centring, coning, opening and pulling walls to make simple cylinders. Moving onto making bowl shapes for the more confident learners.
Day Two // You will learn essential hand-building techniques such as coiling, slab building and pinch pottery. You will then get the chance to decorate your creations from the weekend with slips and stamps, ready to be glaze fired for you to collect in 3-4 weeks time.
Please bring a packed lunch, light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
Please also bring a towel, and apron as you will get messy! Ensure that you have short nails and long hair tied back for throwing, and any jewellery should be removed from your hands and wrists. If you have false nails it is advised to remove them beforehand as these will impede your ability to throw significantly.
We will email you when your work is ready to collect after a few weeks, and you can come and collect your pots on Sundays between 10am and 4pm. We keep work for 2 months after emailing, after which we have to dispose of the work as we have limited storage space.
Please ensure that you can attend all sessions as we cannot offer space to catch up a session in other classes.
