February 2020 // Potters Wheel // 6 Week Course // All Levels inc. Beginners
Please see drop down menu for all dates starting January 2020
The course content is aimed at beginners, but those with experience are welcome to do carry out their own projects with optional tutor support. Each session is 2.5 hours long, allowing for 2 hours making, and half an hour cleaning and packing up.
On this course, beginners will learn the fundamental skills of throwing on the potters wheel: wedging, throwing cylinder and bowl forms, trimming, handle making, and glazing. Those who have already taken beginner classes will be offered help and advice by the tutor after the initial class demonstration.
Throwing successfully takes time and practice, and the focus of this course is on learning and improving, not necessarily about the outcome of a finished pot. You will have access to your own wheel in each session.
The course includes 3kg of fired ceramics, any extra will be charged at £4 per kg.
We will email you when your work is ready to collect after a few weeks, and you can come and collect your pots on Sundays between 10am and 4pm. We keep work for 2 months after emailing, after which we have to dispose of the work as we have limited storage space.
***Please bring a towel and an apron for the duration of the course as you will get messy! (We do sell these if you need them, but we do not have any to borrow due to the cleaning this creates for us.)***
Please ensure that you have short nails and long hair tied back for throwing, and any jewellery should be removed from your hands and wrists. False nails should be removed as this will seriously hinder your ability to throw.
Please ensure that you can attend all sessions as we cannot offer space to catch up a session in other classes.
